The Lucknow Super Giants posted a humongous total of 209 runs after losing the toss to the Delhi Capitals at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. The LSG batters performed exceptionally well, especially Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, who scored 72 runs and 75 runs respectively. Mitchell Marsh’s 72 runs came in 36 balls with a strike rate of 200. At the same time, Nicholas Pooran played a monstrous innings of 75 runs in just 30 balls with a strike rate of 250. The DC batting line up faced serious problem when three of their top four batters were dismissed early. The last minute entry of all-rounder Shardul Thakur really worked for the Lucknow franchisee. He dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel in his first over itself. Skipper Axar Patel was also sent back to the pavilion early on 22 runs by Durgesh Rathi. Vipraj and Ashutosh’s partnership brought Delhi back into the competition but the ‘Man of the Hour’ was Ashutosh Sharma. He led his team to victory and contributed the most in the match today for Delhi Capitals. Vipraj Nigam showed an intent to fight back when he smashed consecutive boundaries against the Lucknow bowlers, but his innings ultimately came to an end on 39 runs. Apart from Vipraj Nigam, Tristan Stubbs gave a good hand with the bat by smashing 34 runs and. M Siddharth and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each for themselves with an economy of over 9 per over the YSR Reddy Stadium witnessed fireworks with batting of Marsh Puran and Vipra Nigam.
Ashutosh Sharma played an innings of a lifetime when he dragged Delhi Capitals from the dead with a blistering half century and helped them defeat Lucknow Super Giants by 1 wicket in a thrilling encounter. Vipraj Nigam’s quickfire 39 off 15 and Tristan Stubbs’ 34 also played their part as Sharma entered god mode in the end, pulling DC, who were down 4 wickets at the end of the powerplay, kicking and screaming over the finish line.
